gratitude practice
Wealth takes many forms.
Let’s remember gratitude, and bring it into the body.
Gratitude is more than saying thank you.
it is the practicing of noticing.
an awe.
When we intentionally notice what is already supporting us, nourishing us, teaching us, and loving us, we begin to experience our life differently.
You do not need to wait for everything to be perfect before you feel grateful.
You can meet your life exactly where it is.
Take a moment to become still. Place a hand over your heart, your belly, or anywhere on the your body that feels comforting.
Take 3 slow breaths. Feel the inhale enter your body. Feel the exhale leave.
Notice that your body has been breathing for you all day without asking for recognition.
Begin there. THANK YOU BREATH.
Now notice your body. Your heart beating. Your feet carrying you. Your hands creating, holding, touching, and helping. Your eyes witnessing the world around you. You do not have to love everything about your body to appreciate something it does for you.
THANK YOU BODY.
Now allow your awareness to move outward. Think of one person, animal, place experience, or relationship that has brought something meaningful into your life. Let yourself remember it. Instead of simply thinking, I am grateful for this, notice what gratitude actually feels like.
Does your chest soften? Do you smile? Does your breathing change? Let this feeling stay for a few breaths. THANK YOU FOR BEING PART OF MY LIFE.
Now choose something incredibly ordinary.
A warm drink. Clean water. Your bed. A favorite song. Sunlight through a window. A tree you pass every day. A meal. A laugh. A quiet moment. THANK YOU FOR WHAT I SOMETIMES FORGET TO NOTICE.
Finally, gently bring to mind something your life has taught you. It does not need to be something you are grateful “happened”. Some experiences are painful, difficult, or unfair.
Gratitude does not require us to pretend otherwise. Instead, perhaps you can appreciate something that grew within you because you lived through it……
Strength. Discernment. Compassion. Boundaries. Courage. Wisdom. A deeper understanding of yourself.
THANK YOU FOR WHO I HAVE BECOME ALONG THE WAY.
Take one final breath. Look around you. Nothing needed to change for you to arrive here. You simply stopped long enough to notice what was already there.
